The STAR Method

Structure your answers using Situation, Task, Action, Result.

Situation

Set the scene. "When I joined the marketing team, our email open rates were below industry average at 12%."

Task

Explain your responsibility. "I was tasked with improving email engagement across our 50,000 subscriber base."

Action

Describe what you did specifically. "I implemented A/B testing for subject lines, segmented our audience by behaviour, and redesigned our email templates."

Result

Quantify the outcome. "Within 3 months, open rates increased to 28% and click-through rates doubled, generating £120K in additional revenue."

Research the Company

Know the company inside out: recent news, financial results, products/services, competitors, company culture, and the interviewer's background. Check their LinkedIn activity, recent blog posts, and company press releases. Reference specific details during the interview to show genuine interest.

Questions to Ask

Always prepare 3-5 thoughtful questions. Good examples: "What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?" "What are the team's biggest challenges right now?" "How would you describe the team culture?" These demonstrate strategic thinking and genuine interest.
